We will harvest fresh backyard fruit for donation to local soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and the food bank. Typical harvests take about 3 hours and travel no more than 25 miles from the starting location. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothing appropriate for the expected weather conditions of the day. Come prepared to be outdoors for 4 hours. Other items we recommend (as we do not provide them) are: Water Gardening gloves Garden clippers Hat and Sunglasses Snack Brown bag to take some fruit home You can learn more about Contra Costa Fruit Rescue & Forestr.org at https://www.forestr.org/fruit-rescue/ FAQs I have never been to a harvest. Can you give me an idea what to expect? We meet at a central location and then drive to fruit donors homes where we will use picking poles to harvest their excess fruit. Feel free to bring your own pole, if you have one, but we do have some to loan. We typically do 3-4 homes on each event. Fruit is loaded into crates (we provide those) and then transported by car to White Pony Express, a local food pantry or the CCC Food Bank. Is there an age limit? Children must be 6 years or older and accompanied by a parent/guardian. If you are under 18 and have a driver’s license you may come on your own and drive your car to the harvest locations, but your parent must register you as a minor. Please list age of minor on registration form. Can I come without registering? No. Each harvest can accommodate a limited number of volunteers, and our insurance policy requires volunteers to provide emergency contact information and to review and accept the terms and conditions of the Release of Liability Agreement before attending a harvest. Where Will We Meet? If we know the starting location, the address is listed on the event page. Most of the time we do not know the starting location until 48 hours before the harvest. At that time we will email the address to all registered volunteers and update the address on this page. Can I cancel my ticket after registration? Yes. We understand things happen! We’d be grateful if you take a minute and cancel your ticket. It gives another volunteer the chance to join the harvest and allows us to plan the right amount of work for the expected volunteers.
