Mayor Amy Worth presents the proclamation declaring March as Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Month to the Peer to Peer Club co-president, Sophie Kessler, who is a senior at Miramonte High Sch
Orinda Mayor Amy Worth read a two-page proclamation declaring March, 2021, as Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Month at the March 2 City Council meeting. She later presented the document to Sophie Kessler, a senior at Miramonte High School and co-president of its Peer-to- Peer Club.
According to Kessler, the Club helps reinforce the message to kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
After thanking Kessler and her group “for all your good work,” Worth read, in part, “Prescription drug abuse can lead to infectious disease, overdose, and death.”
Kessler, who plans to pursue a nursing degree at St Olaf College in Minnesota, said, “Hearing the message from a peer, we hope, provides another, safe avenue for our friends to learn about and prevent issues surrounding drugs and alcohol. One pill can kill.”
